Manual Lymphatic  Drainage (MLD)

A Gentle Path to Healing

The Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system is a circulatory system composed of lymph vessels, much like blood vessels. It drains extra fluid (lymph fluid) that has passed out of the blood and into tissues and returns it to the bloodstream. The primary purpose of the lymphatic system is to drain substances that cannot be drained or reabsorbed by the bloodstream. Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of water and protein in interstitial spaces resulting in protein-rich swelling. Improper drainage results in a buildup of lymph fluid in your arms and legs, which can present possible health risks when left untreated. Are parts of your body swollen, tight, or hard to the touch? If so, you might have Lymphedema.

What is MLD?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized, gentle manual technique designed to promote the health and function of your lymphatic system. It's a specific pattern of very slow, light, and rhythmic stretching of the skin in circular and sweeping movements.

This precise technique is used to stimulate lymphatic vessels and nodes, effectively rerouting lymphatic fluid (which can cause swelling) around blocked or inefficient ducts in your body.

Common Conditions Treated with MLD

Swelling and edema: lymphedema, post surgery, orthopedic conditions

Lipedema

Pain management: paliative, pelvic pain

IBS/constipation

Key Benefits of MLD

MLD is not just for swelling; it offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits:

Reduces Swelling (Edema): Effectively manages chronic and acute swelling, including lymphedema and post-operative fluid buildup.

Aids in Recovery: Accelerates healing and recovery from surgery or injury by clearing cellular waste and reducing inflammation.

Promotes Detoxification: Supports the body's natural processes for waste removal and cleansing.

Pain Management: Helps alleviate various forms of pain, including chronic and post-surgical discomfort.

Boosts Immune Support: By optimizing lymph flow, it helps filter waste and moves immune cells throughout the body.

Improves Skin Health: The gentle action can enhance the appearance and texture of the skin.
